Child & Adolescent Therapy

Big feelings need room to grow.

Childhood and adolescence are times of rapid growth, discovery, and emotional development. But even with loving families and supportive environments, kids sometimes struggle to process the challenges life throws their way. From school pressure and social struggles to family changes or internal worries—they often don’t yet have the tools or language to fully understand or express what they’re going through.

Therapy gives children and teens a safe, welcoming space where they can be themselves, work through tough emotions, and gain the confidence they need to navigate the world around them.

Our focus is helping children feel heard, understood, & empowered.

At Beehive Mental Health, we specialize in working with children and adolescents in ways that meet them right where they are. We create a safe, judgment-free environment where your child can feel comfortable exploring their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors without fear or shame.

Our approach focuses on:

  • Identifying and exploring emotional and behavioral challenges in a safe, developmentally appropriate way

  • Giving kids language and tools to articulate their feelings and experiences

  • Helping them build emotional regulation skills so they can manage strong feelings more effectively

  • Developing healthy communication and relationship skills for both home and social settings

  • Strengthening their sense of identity, self-worth, and resilience

Therapists use a variety of evidence-based approaches including talk therapy, play therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), and creative modalities to ensure therapy feels engaging, safe, and helpful for your child.

Children and teens may benefit from therapy if they are experiencing:

  • Anxiety or excessive worry

  • Difficulty adjusting to life transitions

  • Behavioral issues at home or school

  • Childhood trauma

  • Attention challenges or ADHD

  • OCD

  • Loss of a loved one

  • Challenges with self-esteem or identity

What if my child doesn’t want to go to therapy?

It’s completely normal for kids—especially older children and teens—to feel nervous or resistant about going to therapy. They might worry it means something is “wrong” with them, or feel unsure about opening up to someone new. That’s okay.

At Beehive, our therapists are trained to build trust and connection at your child’s pace. We use age-appropriate, creative approaches like games, play, storytelling, and art to help them feel at ease and begin engaging in the process.

You can support your child by:

  • Reassuring them that therapy is a positive, supportive space—not a punishment

  • Framing therapy as something many people use to grow and feel better

  • Giving them some choice in the process (e.g., when they go, how to decorate their therapy journal, etc.)

  • Letting them know you’re proud of them for being open to trying something new

Sometimes the biggest breakthroughs start with the smallest steps.
